Caste System and Economic Growth of Hindus

Caste system is evil in its implementation as it denies the basic freedom of mankind. However, it may be just evil in implementation rather in concept. Thomas Piketty has recognized that the Manu Smriti is the only text of old time which give recognition to working class as a useful function of society. We may avoid him and look into Purusha Sukta of Vedic origin which in declaring functioning of well ordered societies also gave four parts which is later extracted and used for caste system. Purusha sukta is far better and elaborated.

Let us narrow down it to the caste system as part of Purusha

1. Brahmin - Mouth of a universal being (not to attribute Head to Brahmin, Head is given collectively to many Gods)

2. Khestri- Shoulders of a universal being

3. Vaisya - Thighs of a universal being

4. Sudra - Feet of a universal being

For this caste system there can be two possible implementation style. One is to designate each individual on the basis of skills acquired from Gurukul (or Kul established by the Guru) and second system where mother gives birth to each children with designation. Second system is both unjust and artificial and more like a political corruption than a Vedic culture.

Let us examine both of these options for economic growth or increase in total produce of the society.

Option I.

This system is the exaggeration of the knowledge accumulated by the society. It believes nothing more can be learned after Gurukul and the ultimate has been given. I may be doing injustice to that generation which give life long luxury of studying to Brahimin class which is financed by donation of the society. System utterly kept Brahimins from any biases for provider of finance both political and social standpoint. This system can produce such a scholars which even the current Government financed and well governed schools of advanced countries too can not imagine, as they are politically biased schools. But rare is scholarship which faces no necessity to advance and get paid for performing rituals. A kind of monopoly is assigned to each of the class and as they have no self-interest of advancing their profession, all research and development will be imaginary and positive disruption is zero or around zero. Since, nobody has incentive to advance anything, fixed numbers (assumed) of professionals are kept for a society for a fixed output, society will not produce anything more or it can not. It is designed for stability and it can be just (which may be at distribution of lesser than poor of a rich country to the richest person in that society). Hence, under this Option, economic growth is not possible and the society is established on the belief that Highest has be learned.

Option II.

This is the corrupt form of the caste system. If such system had been originally adopted then we can not say that Sages were of pure heart with mind of justice. In such case we must be bold enough to declare them evil from the development of this time regarding Justice Theories, which I can't say at best.

Such system is stable at cost of poor people only, there will be no profession at all and value created by honest human being will be looted by people at power who declare themselves at time of birth to be of this and that caste. They will be selfish enough to hold the position and weak enough to indulge in corruption for maintaining their fake persona. Men and women of evilness will cover the whole earth as injustice is the source of all kind of poverty and misery in a society. Hence, under this Option economic produce will not increase rather will decrease and this downward trend will continue till all become dead.

As discussed above under any option, caste system can not grow economically as nobody has incentive to work for betterment. Option I though peak best men, they too are waste talent. Option II peaks fake persona at a first step of society building and it is luck of people to have a generous King under such corrupt system.

Hindu Jurisprudence- Smriti And some property law

I just don’t have the energy to write against the popular teaching (perhaps I have read the wrong books) that Hindu jurisprudence is contained within the Smriti, mainly the Manusmriti, and the property systems of the two schools — Mitakshara and Dayabhaga (I forget which region each school belongs to). But these are laws, not jurisprudence. I admit I do not know the subject of jurisprudence deeply — such a tragedy — but it seems to me these were laws made for the time and place according to the wisdom of the sages of that era. The Smriti writers themselves clearly said that the source of their understanding is the Veda. So, anyone who wants to understand exactly what truth Hindus hold must study the Vedas. Those who cannot may go through the Upanishads (major texts distilled by sages to teach the essence of the Jñāna part of the Veda). Those who still find that difficult may turn to the Mahabharata (which is in itself a “great battle” to understand), or they may study Mīmāṁsā, Nyāya-śā...
